Jake’s grandfather has always told him fantastic stories. When his grandfather mysteriously dies, Jake finds himself embarking on a journey that includes children with unusual powers, an elaborate time loop from World War II and Miss Peregrine, the ymbryne who keeps them all safe from the dangerous hollows who attempt to destroy them. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”.

· Jake is telling Dr. Golan about Abe, his grandfather, babysitting him a lot. In the flashback, a wider view of Jake and his grandfather at the table, looking at the map as his parents walk in, shows Abe is holding his magnifying glass in his right hand. His hand is elevated, near his face. It cuts to a close-up of Abe, and he’s still holding the magnifying glass. The scene cuts back to the wider view when Jake’s mother mentions it’s 11 o’clock, and Abe’s hand is down, not holding the magnifying glass.

· After a young Jake is ridiculed at school, he gives the box of photos back to Abe. In the far view, as Jake says his “dad says you probably found them at a junk store”, his hands are clasped in front of him, between his legs. Abe says, “I would never lie to you”. It cuts to a closer view when Jake says, “but you did”, and both hands are now on each knee.

· Jake opens the book Abe left him. In the close-up view of the book, Jake is reading the title page, with his grandfather’s inscription, with his right thumb holding the page down. It cuts to a close-up, front view of Jake and the title page is already turned as he starts skimming through the book.

· When Jake first sees the children on the island, it’s Claire, Emma, Olive, and the twins that he sees. In the next scene it’s Bronwyn, Emma, Olive and the twins. Claire and Bronwyn have switched.

· Miss Peregrine gets up from the table to answer the phone and tells the children to get ready for movie night. It cuts to a close-up of Claire when she speaks and the view of her plate shows the bone is laying across the plate. Miss Peregrine turns and a view of the table shows it’s the uneaten chicken leg that’s now on Claire’s plate.

“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” (2016) stars Eva Greene, Asa Butterfield, Samuel L. Jackson, Judi Dench, Rupert Grint, Allison Janney, Chris O’Dowd, Terence Stamp, Ella Purnell and Finlay MacMillan. It runs 127 minutes and is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of fantasy action/violence and peril.
