Chinese Memorial Day Recipes
Memorial Day marks the start of the summer season here in the U.S. Many celebrate this day with backyard barbecues or fun picnics. For this year’s celebration why not serve a unique menu of delicious Chinese recipes. Here is a fun menu for your Memorial Day barbecue.

Main Course
The main course for most Memorial Day parties normally includes burgers, hotdogs, and/or grilled chicken. For a twist on the traditional fare why not try some Peking duck sliders, grilled five spice chicken skewers and hoisin grilled chicken.

Peking Duck Sliders Recipe
Mini slider buns are brushed with hoisin sauce and then filled with slices of Peking duck, cucumber, and green onion. Peking duck can be found already cooked in most asian grocery stores, making this recipe simple to make and delicious for any outdoor barbecue.

Five Spice Grilled Chicken Skewers Recipe
White meat chicken is marinated in a delicious five spice sauce and then skewered and grilled to perfection. This recipe is sure to please guests with its light sweet and slightly spicy flavors. Keep in mind that the chicken needs to marinate for 2 1/2 to 3 hours before being placed on the skewers.

Hoisin Grilled Chicken Recipe
Hoisin sauce is the Chinese version of barbecue sauce. In this recipe boneless, skinless chicken breasts are grilled with the hoisin sauce just as you would grill them with barbecue. This is the perfect twist on a traditional Memorial day recipe.

Side Dishes
The side items for most traditional barbecues include potato salad, pasta salad, corn, or coleslaw. To give your party a fun twist try serving Chinese coleslaw, a sweet and sour bean salad, or a delicious Chinese fruit salad.

Chinese Coleslaw Salad Recipe
This coleslaw recipes uses cabbage, green onions, ramen noodles, and slivered almonds to create a delicious and unique crunchy, sweet and spicy salad. Most of this coleslaw can be made ahead of time and then tossed with the dressing and topped with the ramen noodles right before serving.

Sweet and Sour Bean Salad Recipe
Made with a mix of beans, water chestnuts, pineapple and chow mein noodles, this recipe is sure to be a hit with any crowd. This can also be made ahead of time and then topped with the chow mein noodles right before serving.

Chinese Fruit Salad Recipe
This Chinese fruit salad is a great barbecue recipe, which can also be made ahead of time saving you time and energy. Served in a beautiful carved melon, guests will enjoy a delicious mix of melon, longans, grapes, and mandarin oranges.

Most of these recipes can be made ahead of time which makes it easy as a host to sit back and enjoy the party. In addition to the food above, I also love to serve Bubble Tea to drink. This is a delicious cold tea made with milk, cream and honey and then added tapioca pearls for fun. It’s perfect for kids and parents who want something non-alcoholic. Have a wonderful Memorial Day, enjoy!
